Yes colored is tricky. one don't use regular pliers use nylon http://www.widgetsupply.com/miva/merchant.mvc? sell at very good prices and ships fast. if you can bend the wire with your finger this is the best way to bent colored wire, it takes a little pratice, but is fairly easy. as far as care do like you would with any costume jewelry just use it for show and clean with one of the mild jewelry cleaners on the market  I  use connoisseurs delicate jewelry cleaner, and make sure you dry every thing really well so it will not change colors, I use a hair dryer set on cold air.
